Making time for just Tyson and I has been difficult as of late. So when Valentine's Day came around I took it upon myself to plan a fun date for the two of us and our third wheel Graham. :)
The day was crazy busy since the night before we had just gotten home from California. I was unpacking, making our picnic lunch, taking Owen to the doctor for pink eye, trying to make the day extra special for Owen too, and trying to put a little more time and effort into the way I looked for the evening. I am still trying to figure things out as a new mom of two!
Luckily I had some great babysitters to calm Owen when he cried as we left because I am sure he was feeling a bit crummy with his pink eyes (yes both!). We jetted off to a park when it began to be extremely windy and cold (the day before it was in the 70's). So we opted out for eating in the car in the parking lot of the movie theater we were going to instead (so romantic right?) We listened to some love songs thanks to Pandora and ate our spring salad, cheese bagels, chocolate covered strawberries, orange soda, and kettle chips while just talking. It was so nice to just talk. G snoozed in the back.
We were of course running late and so we ran into the movie theater only for me to notice that I had bought the tickets online for a DIFFERENT movie theater! So then we hopped back into the car and drove to the other theater and luckily made it to The Vow just in time for it to start (thank goodness for previews). Now this was our first time EVER going to a movie with a baby. I thought it would work out because G is so low maintenance. But of course he decided to be fussy throughout the entire movie save the first 30 minutes. So we ended up taking shifts watching the movie...once again not so romantic.
We headed home and my plans of hot tubing didn't quite work out either because of a very fussy Graham and so we called it a night. I was pretty bummed about it all since I had tried so very hard for us to get out and Tyson actually took a break from studying for it to happen. We REALLY REALLY needed the alone time too.
After putting Owen to sleep and calming Graham down, we were finally able to just talk. Even though the date didn't go as planned, Tyson was so grateful for my effort and I felt even more determined to make dates happen again like before G was born. It really made us feel even that much more grateful for each other and the time that we DO get to spend together. And not to mention the times we get to fall in love all over again.
Thank goodness for eternity.
