Praise Board

So I am trying to write more about my experiences as I teach first grade. I really want to remember these things and I have decided that blogging about it would be a great way to do so. So here goes...

In my classroom we have something called a "Praise Board." On this praise board I post student work, note from me to the students, "Stellar Star" tickets and anything else that praises the students. It's a place where we can celebrate the strengths of each class member. It helps us build classroom community and it helps us find the "good" in others. In fact I think this is so rewarding and effective that I think there should be a praise board everywhere! My students just love having their work highlighted and they love even more to have their peers or me give them a compliment. I just love working with these little ones because they help me to be more positive and to have a better outlook on everything. It's amazing at how much we can learn from 7 year-olds!
By the way, since I am not allowed to post pictures of my cute class...here is a picture of how they see themselves. :)

Oh and to praise my husband....He made a mouth watering roast last night that I thought it was too good not to share. He spent the night before and the morning of preparing it to be just right. He wanted it to taste just like his moms.He even burned himself the night before when he was browning it on the stove. Now that's dedication! Well it turned out to be so yummy that I had to post some pics! Let's just say that he is definitely the better cook in our family. Love you babe!

Julie, I bet you are the best teacher. What cute ideas. We need you closer so that Lillie and Mollie can be your students. Oh, and how come we weren't invited to dinner?

Jules! We're blogging buddies! I should use your idea! Even for my high school kids - they LOVE being praised. Maybe like a "Wall of Fame" type thing. Sounds like it's worked though. And props to Tyson for the roast - I still want his recipe for salsa ha! Darling pics babe

And you know how I feel about blog posts from your professional life! What a creative and important thing to do for your kids! I can't wait to hear more stories about your teaching. . .
